We're Excited to B a part!

Team Tuckerman is thrilled to announce an exciting piece of news: Tuckerman was recently certified as a card-carrying B Corporation, a business which embraces social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability as a core part of its mission. We’re thrilled to join the party of over 1,400 fellow B Corps!

And impressive company it is too. In addition to the many small to medium-sized B Corps the list also includes some well-known brands like Patagonia, Warby Parker, Etsy, and others. Though they span 120 industries and 40 countries all of these companies believe in using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.

For us, the reasons for getting certified were primarily twofold. First, we thought that incorporating a wider set of social and environmental concerns would make us a stronger business. If that seems too vague, here’s an example. One of our primary challenges in building Tuckerman has been building a supply chain that we could be proud of. And that meant working closely with partners to help us be involved “from dirt to shirt”: from knowing the source of the cotton that’s in our shirts, to the mill where it’s woven, to the factory where we make the final product. In the process we learned more about agricultural practices, warps and weaves, or the nuances of tension-threading - far more than we ever would have had we simply ordered finished goods and left it at that. The result: being intimately involved in the process makes for a better product. And if it’s true for making clothing, but we think it’s equally true for building a company.

This leads to the second reason: We felt that there was something important about having an independent standard, one with rigorous assessment behind it. We believe that being accountable for that in concrete ways would make us more thoughtful about what we do, and help keep that commitment as a core part of our business. The assessment will also provide a roadmap to becoming a better organization as we grow.

So all in all, it’s a happy day at Tuckerman, and we’re excited to share the news with you. We also want to thank our customers, without whom Tuckerman wouldn’t exist, our partners, who have helped us make fantastic shirts, and all of those who have helped along the way. We’ve got plenty of work to do, of course, but we’re thrilled to “B” a part of something special. Onward and upward!
